Rob Bell on the resurrection

A glance at my blogging over the last few weeks will reveal that I am far from an uncritical supporter, but I maintain that any preacher who does not stand in awe of his gifts in communicating demonstrates so little understanding of her calling that she should give up right now. The video above? Let me put it like this: if someone donated a 4 min advertising slot to the churches during the Superbowl, we could not do better than to play it.
Brilliant, just brilliant
Phil, welcome – and apologies for what the random avatar generator has inflicted upon you…

That is indeed a little unfortunate. I shall endeavour not to be an angry blogger!
I love this video. I posted this video earlier today on my facebook wall. I oddly enough got a response from someone saying they thought the video was misleading because nothing Rob Bell was saying has anything to do with the resurrection.
The twice-as-long response that YouTube flashed up afterwards doesn’t strike the same aesthetic chords.
Terry,
I watched that, well about 2 minutes of it before I lost the will to carry on. I always find it odd when people critique a four minute video on all the things not said or treat it as if he should have been giving a lecture or even a sermon. Just odd.
It’s almost like someone saying, “Well, John, I’ve read your Gospel, but… well, all these things you say you haven’t put in…”
Rescuing us not so much from sin or hell, but from despair, cynicism and a meaninglessness existence? Sounds shaky.
I thought the content of Bell’s video was fine, and appreciate his passion. But it was so overproduced with the throbbing music and arresting light effects that it diminished from what might have actually been better – Bell just simply speaking about the resurrection without all of the varnish.
